Nursery Curriculum Overview

Reception

During the Autumn term, Reception's topic will be Me, Myself and I. They will be exploring and learning all about themselves and their families. As the children settle in, we will be making lots of new friends and learning how to be a good friend. By the end of the term, the children will be ready to party as we will be celebrating lots of different festivals during our “Let’s Party” topic.  These involve Diwali, Hanukkah and Christmas. Some of the many activities the children will be doing include crafts, learning about different cultures, role play, food tasting and cooking. We will also be going on our annual Christmas trip to meet Santa.

In the Spring term, we will be visiting and meeting some different people who help us. The children will really enjoy risk-taking and playing in the outdoor area. In our outdoor area, we have a sand pit, water area, construction, bikes, slide and many more exciting things to play with such as wooden planks and logs, old tyres and other building materials. After half term, we will be going on some amazing adventures. The first adventure is a bear hunt and the children will be using their detective skills to measure footprints, look out for clues and describe the bear. This first adventure will lead us to discovering more about superheroes, dinosaurs, wizards, witches and fairytales.

Finally, in the Summer term we will be learning about how things grow, animals, food and healthy eating.  As part of this topic the children will plant some flowers and make some healthy food and drinks, which they can incorporate into their lunchboxes.  After the half term, we will be getting ready for the summer and going under the sea. We will be learning about different creatures in the ocean and comparing them. We will also be looking at the seaside and writing postcards to our friends and family. We will be inviting you to our graduation at the end of the year to sing some summer songs with us ready for the holidays.
